William John Evans (Bill) would have had his Birthday today he was born this day August 16th 1929
He was an American Jazz pianist arranger and composer he worked along side the giants of Jazz including Miles Davis, Cannonball Adderley Tony Bennett Chet Baker and many more besides Many of his compositions such as Waltz for Debbie have become standards and have been recorded by many artists but for me i think his best was Peace Piece on the Kind of Blue album
Today would have been Rashaan Roland Kirks birthday he was only 42 years old when he sadly passed away but he will be forever remembered for his multi instrument playing and covering many genres of jazz
Looking forward to the documentary film "Tubby Hayes A Man In Hurry" release date fingers crossed will be October 2015 copies hopefully will be available from your local DVD high street retailer rumor has it HMV will be stocking it. I am also pleased to say that i have supplied some of Freddy's photographs for the documentary. Also many congratulations to Simon Spillett on his succsessful book release "The Long Shadow Of The Little Giant" its an amazing read of Tubby Hayes life story

Today would have been Louis Armstrong's Birthday born 1901 and sadly passed away in 1971 Louis gained a the nicknames Satchmo and Pops he was one of the most influential jazz artists of his generation and was known equally for his gravely singing voice as his trumpet playing Happy Birthday Satchmo
